August Krickel
THEATRE EDITOR
August Krickel is a veteran writer, editor, and theatre critic who has covered the Columbia arts scene since the 1980’s. Winner of the 2013 SC Press Association award for critical writing (weekly division), he serves as Jasper’s theatre editor. His reviews, essays, interviews and articles have appeared in the Free Times, Briefs Magazine, Financial Outlook, and The Vanderbilt Register, and online at Onstage Columbia, Whoosh!, and the Jasper blog site. An article co-written with Susan F. Wiltshire appeared in Classical Bulletin 58 (1982) and was later incorporated into her book Public and Private in Vergil’s Aeneid (University of Massachusetts Press, 1989), and his essay on Columbia theatre history was included in The Limelight – A Compendium of Contemporary Columbia Artists, Volume 1 (Muddy Ford Press, 2013.) As an actor he has appeared on stage in Nashville, TN, with the Circle Players, Poverty Playhouse, and Theatre Parthenos, and in Columbia with Town Theatre, Workshop Theatre, and the Chapin Theatre Company. He has toured in productions of The Wizard of Oz (Southeastern Productions) and The Road to Victory (Stages of Remembrance) and directed at Act One Theatre. While he would love to spend his life enjoying and writing about events and performances in Five Points, the Vista, and Main Street (he would – he really would!) August has also worked for universities and non-profits in PR and fund raising.
